Main ContentMessage from the Chief Residents
Welcome to the University of Mississippi Medical Center Pediatrics Residency Program! We are the Chief Residents for the 2022-2023 academic year and are so excited that you’ve chosen to learn more about our program.
As recent graduates, we have had the distinct perspective of getting to train and grow here at UMMC as residents and now serve as attendings alongside some of our mentors and teaching giants. And we can honestly say, serving the children of Mississippi just does not get old. As the only Children’s hospital in the state, we are a safety net for the sickest patients our state, and occasionally our neighboring states, have to offer. We are able to develop a solid foundation in general pediatrics through our inpatient & outpatient experiences, while also seeing and caring for the sequelae of poor health literacy that is so prevalent in our state. We are able to learn to meet patients and people where they are and figure out how best to serve them. We are a Level 1 trauma center with a Level 4 NICU which lends for unparalleled exposure to complex pathology and illnesses. Both the quality of training and the clinical experience our residents receive not only prepare us to graduate fully prepared for independent practice, but ready to practice well.
We three are certainly thankful for the residency experience and the work family that we have through UMMC and can continue confidently into our career paths thanks to the support and mentorship we’ve had along the way. They call Jackson "The City with Soul" – and that’s evident from our hospital, our people, our restaurants, our events, and our service to each other. The people of Jackson care deeply for our city, our state, and our people.
Our residency program is an extension of that sentiment, and we're excited that you're considering our program for your training in Pediatrics. We’re certainly thankful that we did! We’re looking forward to meeting you and wish you all the best!
