Lodging is provided for out-of-town applicants the night prior to the interview at the Residence Inn Jackson, 1248 Eastover Drive, Jackson, MS 39211. Any further nights can be booked at interviewee's own expense by contacting the Residence Inn at (601) 362-8003.
Applicant dinners are held at resident’s homes the night before your interview day. The dinner typically starts about 6:30 p.m. If you are staying at the Residence Inn Jackson, residents will pick you up at 6 p.m. in their personal vehicles. Dress is business casual. Spouses/significant others are welcome if they also are in town for your interview. Please let us know of any dietary preferences.
The interview day starts at 7:15 a.m. and lasts until approximately 3 p.m.
Your interview will not end before check-out time on the day of the interview. Therefore, you will need to check out that morning prior to leaving the hotel. You may leave your luggage at the front desk, and they will keep it for you until the end of your interview day.
If you are staying at the Residence Inn, transportation will be provided by the residency program to and from the hospital. If you drive your own vehicle to the interview, park in garage B. Bring your parking ticket with you for validation and give to the Program Administrator. Directions to garage B: From North State Street, turn onto the UMMC campus. Garage B is on the corner of State Street and Woodrow Wilson Drive.
Our program administrator will meet those arriving from the Residence Inn at 7:10 a.m. in the lobby of the Wiser Hospital and walk you to the welcome breakfast. If you are driving yourself, it is encouraged that you also arrive at this time.
Breakfast will be provided in the morning upon arrival at the hospital. Residence Inn also offers a complimentary breakfast starting at 6:30a.m. for their guests.
You will receive a schedule at the beginning of the interview day with an itinerary that includes the names of your interviewers. Each applicant typically has five 12-minute interviews. This includes the program director, associate or assistant program director, and department faculty.
Thank-you notes are not required but can be sent to the Pediatrics office and will then be distributed to the faculty. Enclose individual thank-you notes in a larger envelope addressed to Melanie Thaw, Department of Pediatrics, 2500 N. State St., Jackson, MS 39216.
