| Routine: 8 hours after the run is started. | |||
| Collection Information: | No special patient preparation is required. Obtain specimen by standard collection procedures. Two (2) tubes of blood are required. | ||
| Transport Information: | Deliver to lab immediately. All specimens must be signed into the laboratory. | ||
| Reference Client: | If unable to deliver to lab immediately, centrifuge the specimen and separate the plasma from the red cells within 24 hours. Store and transport the specimen at 2-8° C within 6 days. If longer periods of storage are required the specimen must be frozen at -20° C. | ||
| Causes for Rejection: | Improperly labeled, incorrect container, contaminated, insufficient quantity, incorrect/delay in transport. | ||
| Reference Range: | No normal range. Assay determines increase and decrease of viral load. | ||
| Additional Information: | This test monitors progression of HIV and response to antiviral agents. | ||
