Collection Information: | A fasting specimen is preferred. Obtain specimen by standard collection procedures, using pre-warmed collection tube (wrap tube in heel warmer prior to collection). | ||
Transport Information: | Deliver to lab immediately, wrapped in heel warmer. All specimens must be signed into the laboratory. | ||
Reference Clients: | If unable to deliver to lab immediately, specimen must be allowed to clot at 37° C for 30 minutes. Once specimen has clotted, centrifuge and place serum in a transport tube. Serum should be transported at room temperature within 4 hours of collection. Sample may not be frozen, refrigerated or transported on ice. | ||
Causes for Rejection: | Improperly labeled, incorrect container, contaminated, insufficient quantity, incorrect/delay in transport, failure to collect and maintain specimen at 37° C. | ||
Reference Range: | Negative | ||
Additional Information: | Whole blood must be maintained at 37° C +/- 2° C from the time it is collected until serum is separated from the cells. Failure to do so will result in invalid test results. |
