Pathology Research

The Pathology Department faculty at UMMC actively participates in both basic science and translational research projects. Our clinical faculty members are actively engaged in their own projects and also frequently collaborate on projects with other physicians and scientists at UMMC.

Our residents and fellows regularly contribute with work included in research publications and present their research projects at national meetings. We have several basic science faculty members both within our department and also appointed within other departments. 

To support the research in our department and campus-wide, the UMMC Biobank is housed within the Department of Pathology. This research resource consents patients every day to donate leftover tissues from surgical procedures. Those materials and associated data are provided to investigators based on approved Institutional Review Protocols and following review of the research merit of each request.
