Undergrad School: Yale
Medical School: University of Mississippi School of Medicine

Why did you choose UMMC?:
I chose UMMC because my wife and I felt like this institution had unmatched training and autonomy. For any surgery specialty, getting to do the cases means you get better and learn from your mistakes. I knew this program fostered an environment of learning by doing, which is the way I learn best. Plus, the culture and community of residents were huge draws, as I am from Mississippi and had a ton in common with my now co-residents.

Biography Information:
My name is Clay Thames II, and I grew up in Hattiesburg MS and Chattanooga TN. I went to Yale for my undergraduate before coming to Jackson for medical school, where I met my wife, Layne. For fun, I enjoy being outdoors as much as I can and spending time with Layne, family, and friends. I am a huge soccer and football fan, and also enjoy trying all of the good food Jackson has to offer.
