Rotations/Curriculum

The Department of Orthopaedics at UMMC prides itself on how well trained our residents are after five years of graduated responsibility. Below are the rotations our orthopaedic residents complete, divided by training year.

Post-Graduate Year - 1
  • Basic Surgical Skills Lab (1 month)
  • Orthopedics (6 months)
  • General Surgery Trauma (1 month)
  • Surgical ICU (1 month)
  • Plastic Surgery (1 month)
  • Anesthesiology (1 month)
  • Musculoskeletal Radiology (1 month)
Post-Graduate Year - 2
  • Night Float rotation 1 (6 weeks)
  • Sports/Upper Extremity at MSMOC and/or Capital Orthopaedics  (3 months)
  • Night Float rotation 2 (6 weeks)
  • Trauma (3 months)
  • Total Joint Reconstruction (3 months)
Post-Graduate Year - 3
  • Oncology (3 months)
  • Pediatrics (3 months)
  • Trauma (3 months)
  • Foot & Ankle (3 months)
Post-Graduate Year - 4
  • Private Practice rotation at MSMOC and/or Capital Orthopaedics (3 months)
  • Trauma (3 months)
  • Spine (3 months)
  • Elective/Research (3 months)
Post-Graduate Year - 5
  • Total Joint Reconstruction (3 months)
  • Sports/Hand (3 months)
  • Foot & Ankle (3 months)
  • Pediatrics (3 months)
