As Mississippi’s biggest city, Jackson has all the elements of a great Southern hub: incredible food, outdoor fun, fabulous arts, and a vibrant history.

Jackson is known for its eclectic and growing food scene — among its ranks a James Beard Award-winning soul food restaurant, not to mention fantastic Vietnamese, Thai, Greek, Japanese, Indian fare, and more. There are also several markets in the city for all your provisional and artisanal needs: Flora Butcher, Mr. Chen’s Grocery, Patel Brothers Grocery, and Valdez Market.

Grab a drink and listen to music at famous Hal n Mal’s, or hit up Fertile Ground in Jackson for its aesthetic. For a more robust experience, check out Cathead, a local vodka distillery with frequent live music nights and its annual Cathead Jam festival.

There’s always music playing somewhere in Jackson. Brandon Amphitheatre is our largest music venue while Duling Hall is a converted elementary school for a more intimate listening experience.

When in doubt, get outside. We are lucky to have a central reservoir for running and bike trails, dog parks, boat rentals, and other water sports. The Natchez Trace goes right through Jackson with fabulous bike trails and beautiful scenic driving. Meanwhile, tennis courts and golf courses can be found throughout the city.

Did you know Jackson hosts the International Ballet Competition as one of four rotating sites for annual global competitive ballet, along with Helsinki, Moscow, and Varna? Jackson has a rich history and tradition of arts and entertainment. The Mississippi Museum of Art draws world renowned exhibits while galleries in Fondren showcase more local talent. Don’t skip The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, which highlights the movement that changed the nation through stories of famous Mississippians like Medgar Evers, Fannie Lou Hamer, and many more.
