Application Criteria

  • PGY-1 applications accepted through ERAS and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
  • The program abides by all ERAS criteria and deadlines.
  • Deadline for receiving applications is Dec. 31.
  • Applicants with more than two attempts to pass any part of the USMLE will not be considered.
  • The MississippiĀ State Board of Medical Licensure requires a maximum of six years for passage of all Step exams for licensure.
  • Applicants will preferably have a two-digit score greater than 80 (three-digit score minimum - 196) on both Step 1 and Step 2 (CK).
  • International graduates must have valid ECFMG certificate to begin residency training.
  • Our institution sponsors J-1 Visas.
  • Have graduated from medical school preferably no longer than two years ago or have been in practice or an ACGME/AOS approved program if graduation date exceeds two years.
  • If previous residency training, must have a letter of recommendation from previous residency program director with specific information regarding performance in the six ACGME competency areas.
  • United States clinical experience is preferred.
  • We interview all applicants from UMMC and from the William Carey Osteopathic School.
