UMMC Dermatology Hosts Successful Annual Dermatology Symposium in Flowood

The University of Mississippi Medical Center Department of Dermatology welcomed more than 100 attendees and 19 national vendors to its Annual Dermatology Symposium on May 1, 2026, held at the Sheraton Flowood the Refuge Hotel & Conference Center in Flowood.

The annual event brought together dermatology professionals, medical providers, industry partners, and learners from across the region to support continued dermatologic education and strengthen professional collaboration in Mississippi and beyond.

This year’s symposium featured an engaging lineup of expert speakers presenting on timely and relevant topics across clinical, cosmetic, and procedural dermatology.

  • Keynote Presentation:  Matthew Zirwas presented Best Literature Pearls from the Last Decade,” highlighting practical insights and evidence-based takeaways from some of the most impactful dermatology research from recent years.
  • Guest Speaker:  Angela Wingfield presented Hot Topics in Cosmetic Dermatology, covering current trends and emerging topics in cosmetic dermatology.
  • Guest Speaker:  Logan Rush presented Tips and Tricks in Procedural Dermatology Revisited,” sharing updated techniques and best practices in procedural dermatology.

The symposium also proudly highlighted expertise from UMMC Dermatology faculty and resident presentations which included:

  • Chelsea Mockbee — “Modern Management of Atopic Dermatitis: Practical Updates for the Dermatologist”
  • Sally McClung — “Accessible Dermatology Care: Jackson Free Clinic”
  • Jeremy Jackson, Chair — “Updates in Psoriasis”
  • Sarah Fillingim — “Pustular Pitfalls: Atypical Presentation of Drug-Related Pustulosis”
  • Amy Flischel – AAD 2025 & 2026 Updates

In addition to educational sessions, the symposium provided attendees with opportunities to connect with 19 national vendors whose partnership helps advance dermatologic education and innovation throughout the region.
