Resident, Fellow, and Trainee Updates

UMMC Dermatology is proud to recognize our new PGY2 residents as well as those who recently graduated from our program in June of 2025.

2025 Residency Graduation

The Department of Dermatology recently held our annual graduation ceremony, celebrating the successful completion of our residency and fellowship programs. We are pleased to announce that all of our June 2025 graduates are now board-certified dermatologists, continuing our program’s 100% board pass rate. Dermatology faculty and staff are extremely proud of our graduates and looking forward to training the next class of residents.

Please join us in congratulating the following graduates on their success and hard work!

  • Dr. Hollis Burrow joined Mississippi Dermatology Associates, continuing the family tradition as a third-generation provider.
  • Dr. Laura Beth Edwards joined Vanderbilt University as an Assistant Professor of Dermatology.
  • Dr. Julissa Jimenez is in the process of completing a pediatric dermatology fellowship at Northwestern University.
  • Dr. Laura Rezac joined Tareen Dermatology in Lakeville, MN.

Welcome new PGY2 Residents and Fellows

We would like to welcome our new residents, Drs. Mark Albrecht, Sarah Bridgeman, Leigh Hickham, Georgia Hughey, and Hannah McCowan, as well as our fellows, Drs. Callie Cross, Teel Liddell, and Lawangeen Zeb. We have been pleased to work with these excellent candidates through the first part of the academic year and believe they will provide outstanding contributions to the residency program and the future of dermatology practice.

Mark

Mark Albrecht, MD - PGY2

We are excited to have Mark Albrecht join the Dermatology residency program after successfully completing the Dermatology research fellowship. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Southern Utah University and earned a Master’s in biomedical Sciences from Colorado State University. He then attended Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree. In his spare time, he enjoys restoring old cars and motorcycles, scuba diving, refurbishing furniture, building computers and coding, fly fishing, and spending time with his wife, Olivia and son, Nolan.

Sarah G. Bridgeman, MD

Sarah Bridgeman, MD - PGY2

Sarah Bridgeman joins UMMC from Oak Ridge, TN. She graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville with a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience. She then matriculated at the East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine where she earned her medical degree. During medical school, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys being a dog mom to her golden retriever Bentley, cheering on the Tennessee Vols, and spending time with friends and family. 

Sarah writes, "I’m enjoying my first year of dermatology residency! It’s been a busy year in all of the best ways. My fiancé Caleb and I recently bought a house here, and Mississippi is really starting to feel like home. Also, we are getting married this month and looking forward to our honeymoon in Turks and Caicos!"

Leigh

Leigh Hickham, MD - PGY2

Leigh Hickham joins UMMC from New Orleans, LA. She graduated from Baylor University with a major in Biology and minor in Biochemistry. She earned her medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. During medical school she was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and completed the Honors Research Program.  Leigh is one of seven children and loves spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandparents. She also enjoys gardening, crocheting, cooking, and pottery. 

Leigh writes, "After matching with UMMC Dermatology, I took a trip with my family to Iceland before I started my intern year at LSU in Baton Rouge. After my intern year, I made the move to Mississippi and it’s been a great transition! I’m grateful to be learning more about a field I’m passionate about every day. Outside of work, I’ve started playing golf more regularly and have loved exploring Jackson’s restaurants and getting to know new friends and colleagues!"

Georgia G. Hughey, MD

Georgia Hughey, MD - PGY2

Georgia Hughey is a Jackson, MS native. She graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience. She then earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. During medical school, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Outside of work, Georgia enjoys playing pickleball, watching reality TV, embroidering gifts for family and friends, and cooking dinner with her husband. Her husband, Conner, is an incoming Internal Medicine resident.

Georgia writes, "I am enjoying my first-year training as a dermatology resident and my husband, Conner, is enjoying being an upper-level Internal Medicine resident! We recently took a trip to Italy and visited Rome, Florence, and Lake Como."

Hannah K. McCowan, MD

Hannah McCowan, MD - PGY2

Hannah McCowan is a Jackson, MS native. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Mississippi with bachelor’s degrees in biology (B.S.) and biochemistry (B.A.). She earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society during medical school. Outside of work, Hannah enjoys reading, horseback riding, taking care of her two cats, and maintaining her streak on Duolingo.

Hannah writes, "Officially starting training as a dermatology resident has been a welcome and exciting transition. I have enjoyed getting to know and spending time with my co-residents. After an eventful October, I am looking forward to spending time with family during the holidays and with my friends on upcoming trips to Orlando and New York City."

Teel Liddell 2024

Teel Liddell, MD - Mohs Fellow

Dr. Teel Liddell is a graduate of UMMC Dermatology’s residency program and a former Assistant Professor in our department. After a year of full-time practice, she is returning to our education mission to complete a Mohs Fellowship.

Teel writes, “I enjoyed the Alabama Dermatology Society meeting in Pointe Clear, Alabama, in June. I have settled into and am enjoying Mohs fellowship.”  Dermatology faculty and staff are thrilled to have Dr. Liddell continue her training with us and look forward to many more years of collaborations together.

Zeb

Lawangeen Zeb, MD - Dermatopathology Fellow

Dr. Lawangeen Zeb completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Florida before matriculating to the University of South Florida’s College of Medicine, where he received an MD. He completed a prelim in Medicine at the University of Florida as well as a dermatology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. 

Cross

Callie Cross, MD - Research Fellow

Callie Cross joins UMMC Dermatology as a Research Fellow after completing her PGY-1 year in UMMC Internal Medicine.

Callie writes, "I'm from Alabama, where I grew up with my family, and later attended Auburn University for undergrad and then the University of South Alabama for medical school. I moved to Jackson in 2024, where I completed my intern year at UMMC in internal medicine. There’s so much to love about this place and the people here, especially. I’m so excited to be a part of the UMMC dermatology family in my new role as research fellow!"
