Where Are They Now?

The Department of Anesthesiology has always had such wonderful people who have contributed to make it what it is today. Residency Class of 2022 and Pain Management Fellowship Class of 2023

Tell us about what you have been doing since you graduated from the residency program.  What does your anesthesia practice look like?  How did UMMC prepare you for your current career?

Since graduating from University of Mississippi Medical Center residency, I completed an interventional pain fellowship at UMMC and have been in private practice (Pain management) for the past three years. My practice is primarily procedural, focusing on fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided spine and nerve interventions, along with a longitudinal clinic component. UMMC provided a strong foundation in clinical decision-making, and early procedural exposure which is key for building confidence. The case volume and early autonomy helped me become comfortable making independent decisions, which has been essential in private practice.

What did you enjoy most about being a resident in this program? 

The camaraderie between my co-residents and attendings is what I enjoyed most about residency. These wonderful folks became like family, and I miss working with them every day! We worked hard, but there was a strong team dynamic among residents, and the case complexity pushed us to grow quickly. The balance of supervision and autonomy made a big difference in preparing me for independent practice.

If you could give any advice to our current trainees, what would it be?

My advice to current trainees is to take ownership of your patients and focus on understanding the “why” behind your decisions. Build strong relationships with your co-residents and faculty, as those connections will continue to matter long after training. Cherish your time in residency, because it truly flies by!
