Anesthesiology Research

The Department of Anesthesiology's Division of Research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center has an active program, which includes basic, translation and clinical research as well as providing educational programs related to research.

The overall mission of the department’s research activities is to improve the quality and outcome of perioperative care and pain management as well as contribute new knowledge to the field of anesthesiology. Currently, the department has multiple research projects ongoing, including the following clinical areas: acute and chronic pain management, obstetric anesthesia, and cardiovascular anesthesia.

The division offers dedicated research rotations for residents and fellows, faculty development programs that mentor junior faculty toward a successful research career, as well as provides funding for research presentations at regional and national anesthesiology meetings. Research within the department also enriches the education and clinical service missions of the department, supporting the discussion and practice of best practice evidence-based medicine.
