Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Informatics - Online

The Health Informatics and Information Management program at UMMC's School of Health Related Professions offers a post-baccalaureate certificate in health informatics that can be earned in 12 months. Consisting of just four courses, this online program teaches specialized skills in electronic health records, clinical information systems, and project management.

The certificate program provides students with knowledge and skills in the areas of information systems analysis, design, implementation and management; health information exchange; social and ethical issues in health care computing; privacy and security of electronic health information; decision support systems; and other emerging areas.

The certificate is comprised of courses which are offered in the first year of the health informatics track of Health Informatics and Information Management's master (MHIIM) degree program. Upon successful completion of the certificate program, graduates may submit an application to the MHIIM program. Semester credit hours earned in the certificate program with a grade of "B" or higher are transferable to the MHIIM.

This  program is designed to meet health informatics competencies, rather than health information management competencies, so it will not prepare graduates to sit for the RHIA exam. A route to RHIA eligibility is available through the health information management track of our MHIIM program.
