New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff. 

Dr. Erik L. Frandsen

Dr. Erik L. Frandsen, recently an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Loma Linda University in California, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an associate professor of pediatrics-cardiology in the School of Medicine.  

Board-certified in general pediatrics and in pediatric cardiology, Frandsen earned his medical degree in 2014 from Creighton University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. At the University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Hospital, he completed fellowships in pediatric cardiology and advanced heart failure/transplant cardiology. 

Frandsen has also served as an attending physician for Pediatric Cardiology Service, Pulmonary Hypertension & Advanced Cardiac Therapies at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital and director of the Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Program. 

In research, he has co-authored more than a dozen scientific publications and participated in numerous abstract and poster presentations at regional, national and international conferences and symposia. He is also the co-author of a book chapter in Cardiac Surgery: A Complete Guide.  

As an educator, he has taught a number of courses in Graduate Medical Education and Continuing Medical Education. During his career he has received several awards and honors for his academic, research and leadership achievements. Frandsen is a member of the Pediatric Heart Transplant Society, United Network for Organ Sharing, National Heart Review Board for Pediatric Heart Transplant, and International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. 

He has served as ad hoc reviewer for Congenital Heart Disease, Pediatric Quality and Safety, and Pediatric Cardiology.

Dr. Callen Jackson

Dr. Callen Jackson, who recently served as associate dentist for Oakdale Family Dentistry in Brandon, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of care planning and restorative sciences in the School of Dentistry. 

Jackson, who received the Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at Mississippi State University, earned the Doctor of Dental Medicine from the UMMC School of Dentistry in 2022. 

At MSU and UMMC, she was recognized for her academic achievements. In the School of Dentistry, she served as a tutor in pre-clinical classes.  

She is a member of the American Dental Association and the Mississippi Dental Association, and is currently serving the MDA as a member of its Council of Membership.

Eleanor Shaw

Eleonor Shaw, who recently served as a speech-language pathologist for the Northeast Georgia Health System-The Rehabilitation Institute in Gainesville, Georgia, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery in the School of Medicine.  

Shaw, who also holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Palm Beach Atlantic University, earned the Master of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology in 2018 from Florida Atlantic University where she was named Outstanding Graduate Student. She completed a clinical fellowship in voice, swallowing and upper airway disorders at MedSpeech Inc. in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, before serving as an in-patient speech-language pathologist for Gwinnett Medical Joan Glancy Rehabilitation Center in Duluth, Georgia, and acute care speech-language pathologist at Northeast Georgia Health System in Braselton.  

Shaw is certified in Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT) LOUD, SPEAK OUT, and Phonation Resistance Training Exercises (PhoRTE). She has made a number of professional presentations, including guest lectures, at a variety of institutions and symposia. She is a two-time recipient of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Award for Continuing Education (ACE). 

She is a member of the Pan American Vocology Association and the ASHA Special Interest Group 03, Voice and Upper Airway Disorders.
