New faculty join UMMC academic ranks
Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Dr. Hailey Moore
Dr. Hailey Moore has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor in the School of Nursing.
Since 2021, Moore has been director of perioperative services at Children’s of Mississippi. She served an interim director of perioperative services in the adult hospital from October 2024 to May 2025. Her new role on the faculty also includes being director of clinical affairs.
She began work at UMMC in 2013 as a circulating nurse and later held positions as leader/coordinator of the surgery team, clinical nurse educator, nurse manager III and interim director of perioperative services at Children’s.
She completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2024 after earning a Master of Science degree in Nursing in 2020, each from UMMC.

Dr. Elizabeth K. Schimmel
Dr. Elizabeth K. Schimmel has joined UMMC as an assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, bringing extensive clinical experience and a strong background in patient care and medical education.
Schimmel most recently served as an otolaryngologist with Baptist Medical Group in Jackson. Prior to returning to Mississippi, she was a practice partner with The Oregon Clinic in Portland, Oregon, where she provided comprehensive care in otolaryngology.
She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and completed her residency in otolaryngology - head and neck surgery at Oregon Health & Science University. She is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery.
Schimmel is an active member of professional organizations including the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and the Central Medical Society. She is also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Her achievements include the Resident Teaching Award and multiple recognitions for excellence on in-service training examinations. She has contributed to research through national and international presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
In her role at UMMC, Schimmel will provide comprehensive otolaryngologic care and support the education and training of medical students and residents.

Dr. Angelina Aduke Toluhi
Dr. Angelina Aduke Toluhi has joined UMMC as an assistant professor in the School of Population Health. A physician and public health professional, she brings more than 15 years of experience strengthening global health systems, evaluating programs such as nutrition and improving maternal and child health by reducing the risk of HIV transmission.
Aduke Toluhi earned her Doctor of Public Health in maternal and child health policy and leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, MPH in global health from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom and MD from the Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria.
Her work also centers on expanding access to care, especially in low-resource and underserved communities. She has led large-scale programs and multidisciplinary teams throughout Africa and the U.S., partnering with government agencies, international organizations and nonprofits to strengthen care delivery, build workforce capacity and support data-driven decision-making.
Aside from advancing equity and maternal health outcomes, Aduke Toluhi’s research also focuses on health literacy, with an emphasis on turning research into real-world solutions that enhance care and guide policy decisions.
