New faculty join UMMC academic ranks
Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Dr. Zhou Fang
Dr. Zhou Fang has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of nursing instruction in the School of Nursing.
Most recently, Fang was a research/data analyst with the Mississippi State Department of Health, where we served as epidemiologist for the Mississippi National Violent Death Reporting System program.
Fang has co-authored publications and participated in studies involving firearm-related homicides and suicides in Mississippi, as well as hospital emergency department visits tied to violence-related injuries.
He completed a doctorate in 2025 in mathematical sciences from Mississippi State University after earning a master’s in statistics in 2016 from the University of Delaware.

Dr. Brad Franklin
Dr. Brad Franklin has joined the Medical Center as an assistant professor of dental hygiene in the School of Dentistry. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Belhaven University.
Franklin brings more than two decades of clinical experience in general dentistry. Since 2004, he has served as owner and clinical director of Dental Care of Flora, where he provides comprehensive dental care, oversees practice operations and mentors clinical staff.
Earlier in his career, Franklin provided care in a variety of rural or underserved communities, including as a staff dentist with Wexford Health Services and at the Ruleville Dental Clinic. He also completed service through the HRSA National Health Service Corps, which focuses on increased access to quality health care in communities with significant health professional shortages.
Franklin has experience in restorative dentistry, diagnosis and treatment planning and digital dentistry workflows, with an emphasis on clinical instruction, patient communication and real-world application in dental education.

Christy Logan
Christy Logan, MAT, BS, RDH, has joined the Medical Center as an instructor of periodontology in the School of Dentistry. She earned her Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and a Master of Arts in teaching from Belhaven College.
Logan brings more than three decades of clinical experience as a registered dental hygienist. Prior to joining the School of Dentistry, she practiced in a variety of settings in the Jackson area, providing comprehensive dental hygiene care and patient education.
Since 2022, Logan has served as a dental hygiene educator at UMMC, where she provides clinical and preclinical instruction to dental students in periodontics. She also contributes to course design, competency-based assessment and the development and administration of objective structured clinical examinations across multiple periodontal courses.
