New faculty join UMMC academic ranks
Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Dr. Micheal R. Covault

Dr. Micheal R. Covault, recently a practicing anesthesiologist with Anesthesia Consultants in Flowood, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology in the School of Medicine.
Board-certified in anesthesiology and echocardiography, Covault earned his medical degree in 2001 from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Great River, New York. He completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Kansas-Wichita, serving his final year as chief resident. Later, he completed an executive medical fellowship in perioperative and critical care echocardiography at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Covault, who has two decades of clinical teaching experience, has practiced in hospitals or physician groups in Kansas and Missouri, as well as in Jackson, Vicksburg and Flowood.
He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Dr. Kelly Dyess Johnson

Dr. Kelly Dyess Johnson, recently a pediatrics resident at the University of Florida in Gainesville, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics in the School of Medicine.
Johnson received her medical degree in 2021 from the UMMC School of Medicine. She performed research in the Radiology Research Program at UMMC, and has made a number of research and quality improvement presentations at the University of Florida and UMMC.
Her record of service and leadership includes the development of a program developed to encourage healthy choices and lifestyle modification for resident clinic patients at UF, and serving as a tutor and mentor for underserved elementary and middle school students. She has also devoted hours of service to the Jackson Free Clinic and has been active with the Mississippi State Medical Association.

Dr. Suresh Tamilarasu

Dr. Suresh Tamilarasu, recently a senior medical physicist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi, India, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor of radiation oncology in the School of Medicine.
He holds a PhD in medical physics from the Vellore Institute of Technology in India, and has extensive experience in clinical radiation therapy and radiation safety.
His career has spanned multiple health care organizations, including Sanjeevani CBCC USA Cancer Hospital in Raipur, India, and Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd., also in India. His expertise in radiation safety and management has been recognized with his certification as a Qualified Radiological Safety Officer.
In addition to his clinical work, he has authored and contributed to several research studies and presented his findings at numerous scientific conferences.
