New faculty join UMMC academic ranks
Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Dr. Jordan C. Armstrong

Dr. Jordan C. Armstrong, recently a sleep medicine fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of neurology in the School of Medicine.
A board-certified neurologist, Armstrong earned her medical degree in 2020 from the UMMC School of Medicine and completed her neurology residency at UMMC in 2024, serving as the neurology residency academic chief.
She has held a number of leadership appointments and has received several academic honors, including the James Corbett Excellence in Neurology Award at UMMC.
Armstrong has a variety of scientific research publications and presentations to her credit, including those on such topics as the intersection of sleep disorders and neurologic conditions.

Dr. Syed M. Hussain

Dr. Syed M. Hussain, a vascular neurologist/neurohospitalist who recently completed a vascular neurology fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of neurology in the School of Medicine.
He earned his medical degree in 2017 from Ziauddin Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. He subsequently completed his residency in neurology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. His clinical training also includes electives at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami, Florida, and the Dent Neurological Institute/Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York.
In addition to his clinical training, he gained research experience at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He has contributed to multiple scientific investigations and was the recipient of a research grant from the American Heart Association during his vascular neurology fellowship.

Dr. Fareena Khan

Dr. Fareena Khan, who recently completed an advanced perioperative clinical anesthesiologist fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology in the School of Medicine.
She received her medical degree in 2013 from the Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan, and completed postgraduate anesthesia training at Aga Khan University Hospital, accredited by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. She also holds the Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland.
Her international experience includes serving in academic and clinical positions in Pakistan, Ireland and the UAE. Her previous appointments include assistant professor of anesthesiology at Baqai Medical University Hospital in Karachi, consultant anesthesiologist at Tabba Heart Institute and National Medical Centre in Pakistan, senior registrar at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ireland and specialist anesthesiologist at Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital in Dubai. Her clinical interests include pediatric, orthopaedic and obstetric anesthesia.
She has contributed to peer-reviewed research and has been active in medical humanitarian work, including volunteer service during Pakistan’s 2005 earthquake and 2022 flood crisis. Khan is a member of the Pakistan Society of Anaesthesiologists and the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy.
