New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff. 

Dr. Natalie Clericuzio

Dr. Natalie Clericuzio, recently in private practice in Georgia at Modern Obstetrics and Gynecology of North Atlanta, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the School of Medicine. 

Board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, Clericuzio earned her medical degree in 2019  from the University of Texas Long School of Medicine in San Antonio. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UMMC before joining Modern Obstetrics and Gynecology. 

During her training, she earned several honors and awards as a researcher and scholar. She has contributed to a variety of research poster presentations, seminars and lectures. 

Clericuzio’s record of leadership and service includes volunteer work with student-run free clinics, including the Jackson Free Clinic. Returning to academic practice in her hometown of Jackson, she is looking forward to mentoring residents and providing patient care to Mississippians.

Dr. Haden A. Johnson

Dr. Haden A. Johnson, recently an aerospace engineer with the U.S. Army DEVCOM Aviation and Missile Center in Huntsville, Alabama, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in the Department of Biomedical Materials Science in the School of Dentistry. 

After earning a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Mississippi State University, Johnson received his PhD in Biomedical Material Sciences from UMMC in 2021. His research experience includes work in MSU’s Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering and Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems, and the UMMC Department of Biomedical Materials Science. 

He has also collaborated with the National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence at Auburn University, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Memphis and various other departments at UMMC 

He is the first author or co-author of a variety of research publications and has contributed to a number of scientific abstracts and conference presentations. His research topics of interest include implant coating technologies and additive manufacturing/3-D printing.

Dr. Frederick M. West

West

Dr. Frederick M. West, a staff anesthesiologist with Jackson Anesthesia Associates in Jackson, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology in the School of Medicine. 

A board-certified anesthesiologist, West earned his medical degree from UMMC in 1995 before completing his internship at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama, and his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  

Throughout his career, West has received a number of honors and awards for his scholarship and clinical skills, including for his performance on the UAB Liver Transplant Team, anesthesiology division.
