New faculty join UMMC academic ranks
Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Dr. Frank P. Bonvillain

Dr. Frank P. Bonvillain, recently the medical director of the Mississippi Opioid and Substance Use Disorder Program at the Mississippi State Department of Health, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology in the School of Medicine.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Bonvillain earned his medical degree from the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans before completing his residency in anesthesiology at UMMC in 2006. At UMMC, he served as an instructor of anesthesiology for two years and as director of Medical Student Education in the Department of Anesthesiology for a year before becoming medical director of the Inpatient Surgery Center.
He also served for more than five years as an assistant professor of anesthesiology at the Medical Center before joining Merit Health Madison (now UMMC Madison) in Canton as chief of anesthesia.
He returned to UMMC and, for nearly eight years, served as an assistant professor of anesthesiology and medical director of the Pre-anesthesia Testing Clinic. In September 2024 he took on his role at MSDH.
Bonvillain received several honors and awards for his accomplishments as a teacher or consultant at UMMC; he was also recognized for his skills as an educator at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Nurse Anesthesia Program, which he served for a year.

Lindsey Hendrickson

Lindsey Hendrickson, recently an oncology nurse navigator for Thyme Care of Nashville, Tennessee, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor of nursing in the School of Nursing.
After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mercy College of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, Hendrickson earned a Master of Science in Nursing in 2022 from the University of North Alabama in Florence.
Certified in chemotherapy and immunotherapy, Hendrickson has also served as a registered nurse at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio; inpatient hospice nurse for Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg; registered nurse for Oxford Surgery Center in Oxford; University of Mississippi Student Health Services in Oxford; infusion nurse/radiation oncology nurse for Baptist Cancer Center in Oxford; and clinical data abstractor for the health tech company, Flatiron Health of New York City.

John E. Lewis

John E. Lewis has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine-genetics in the School of Medicine.
Lewis received a Bachelor of Science in Genetics in 2011 from Texas A&M University in College Station before earning a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling in 2024 from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center.
While earning his MS, he worked for two years as a graduate research assistant at OU Health. Previously, he served as a microbiologist for the Houston Health Department in Houston, Texas; and as a senior research data coordinator at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Lewis is the co-author of several scientific publications. His skill areas include genetic counseling and risk assessment; genomics and molecular diagnostics; research and data management; patient advocacy and genetics education; and more.
