
New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Dr. Jonathan Vaughn

Dr. Jonathan W. Vaughn, recently a lead Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of instruction in the School of Nursing.
Vaughn earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Delta State University in Cleveland and his Master of Science in Nursing-Nurse Anesthesia Track at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, before receiving his Doctor of Health Administration from UMMC in 2021.
At St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, he served, successively, as a staff registered nurse and night nurse manager in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, and staff registered nurse in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit before earning his MSN.
He also served as a CRNA at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood and, at UMMC, as a staff CRNA and a Doctor of Nursing Practice student coordinator.
In 2021, he was elected Preceptor of the Year by the nurse anesthesia programs at the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Vaughn is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology and the Mississippi Association of Nurse Anesthetists, serving several years on its board of directors.

Dr. Kunwar Vikramdeo

Dr. Kunwar Somesh Vikramdeo, recently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Cancer Center and Research Institute, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor of cell and molecular biology in the School of Medicine.
Vikramdeo, who was awarded two fellowships by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in India, received the Master of Science in biotechnology from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow, India, before earning his Master of Philosophy in life sciences and, in 2018, his PhD in life sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India.
Before joining UMMC, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute in Mobile.
A manuscript reviewer for several scientific journals, he is also the co-author of around 20 scientific journal articles and three book chapters. He has made presentations at a number of scientific conferences and is the co-holder of three patents that have been filed or approved.
