The Return of In-Person New Employee Orientation
Published on Tuesday, January 21, 2025
We are thrilled to announce the return of in-person New Employee Orientation at UMMC, starting Feb. 3. As we continue to evolve and strengthen our workplace culture, reintroducing face-to-face orientation marks an exciting milestone in our onboarding process. This change reflects our commitment to fostering connections, reinforcing our mission and setting the foundation for a successful employee journey.
Orientation has always been an integral part of welcoming new staff to the UMMC family. Before the pandemic, our in-person sessions provided an invaluable opportunity for employees to engage directly with UMMC’s mission and vision. While the transition to an online format was necessary during COVID-19, it lacked the interpersonal engagement and immersive experience that make in-person orientation so impactful. By bringing orientation back to an in-person setting, we aim to offer new employees a more meaningful and engaging start to their careers at UMMC.
Face-to-face interaction during orientation allows us to better communicate UMMC’s professional expectations, appearance guidelines and workplace behaviors in a way that fosters understanding and accountability. It also provides new employees with an opportunity to connect with peers, engage with leadership, experience the campus and ask questions in real time.
All new staff employees, including full-time staff, part-time staff, HMP workers and Advanced Practice Providers are required to attend orientation. Faculty and PRN staff employees are excluded. Faculty will continue with faculty onboarding, while new PRN employees will complete their orientation in HealthStream. Sessions will be held every Monday at 8 a.m. (or Tuesday when Monday is a holiday) in the Classroom Wing.
We’re creating a more connected and empowered workforce, ready to make a difference in the lives of our patients, students and our community.
