New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Dr. Sameer K. Goel
Dr. Sameer K. Goel, recently an attending interventional pain physician at Centurion Spine and Pain in Florida, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology in the School of Medicine.
Goel graduated in 2017 from the School of Medicine at UMMC, where he completed his preliminary general surgery internship prior to his residency in anesthesiology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. In 2022, he completed a chronic pain fellowship at University Hospitals Health System/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
He has served as an attending general anesthesiologist for U.S. Anesthesia Partners; an attending general anesthesiologist (locum tenens) at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center in Virginia; and an interventional pain physician for Sunshine Interventional Pain and Wellness Center in Florida, which he co-founded.
Goel, who is double-boarded by the American Society of Anesthesiology in anesthesia and pain medicine, has scientific publications and presentations to his credit.
He specializes in spinal extension blocker placement, minimally invasive lumbar decompression, spinal cord stimulation, sacroiliac posterior fusion, basivertebral nerve ablation and vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty.

Dr. Shivraj Savadkar
Dr. Shivraj Savadkar, recently a pediatric cardiology fellow at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics-cardiology in the School of Medicine.
Savadkar, who is board-certified in general pediatrics, received his MBBS in 2015 from Mysore Medical College and Research Institute in India before completing his pediatric residency at Harlem Hospital Center, affiliated with Columbia University, in New York, New York.
Savadkar has received several academic and research honors and awards.
He is the co-author of a number of peer-reviewed journal articles and has made a variety of scientific poster presentations.

Dr. Daniel Torres
Dr. Daniel Torres, recently a pediatric cardiac critical care fellow at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in Pennsylvania, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics-critical care in the School of Medicine.
Torres received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad de El Salvador in San Salvador in 2010 and completed his pediatric residency at Hospital de Niños Benjamin Bloom in San Salvador and at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, Florida, where he also completed a pediatric critical care fellowship prior to his fellowship at CHOP.
Torres, who is board-certified in general pediatrics, served as a clinical instructor of clinical pediatrics at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University in Miami for three years, beginning in 2020.
His professional experience includes work as a general pediatrician in private practice, emergency room pediatrician and pediatric hospitalist. He has a record of volunteer work/community outreach in the U.S. and El Salvador.
Torres, who has made a number of scientific presentations at national conferences and meetings, is the co-author of several research publications.
He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Asociacion Pediatrica de Oriente (APO) in El Salvador.
