New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff. 

Dr. Kimberly Simmons Sullivan

Dr. Kimberly Simmons Sullivan, a recent graduate of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the School of Medicine. 

During her fellowship, she also served as an OB-GYN hospitalist, PRN, at UMMC, UMMC Grenada and Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.   

A Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Sullivan received her medical degree in 2017 from the UMMC School of Medicine and completed her residency in OB-GYN at UMMC prior to completing her fellowship. As a fellow, she graduated with a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation and was active in research, with several publications, poster presentations and scientific reports to her credit at a variety of international, national, regional and local conferences. 

Her many leadership roles have included service on the Mississippi Maternal Mortality Review Committee. 

Her extensive list of awards and honors as a student, resident, researcher and teacher includes being named a Martin Fellow by District VII of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) in recognition of her leadership and service to the district and women’s health. As a resident, she received the prestigious Robert S. Caldwell, MD, Memorial Award for the top chief resident across all specialties. 

Sullivan is an active member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and ACOG.

Dr. Kelsey A. Walker

Dr. Kelsey A. Walker, recently a post-doctoral fellow in psychology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics-child development in the School of Medicine.  

After earning her Master of Science in Psychology at the University of Memphis, Walker completed an internship in clinical psychology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center Munroe-Meyer Institute in Omaha. She earned her PhD in psychology at the University of Memphis in 2023, then joined UMMC for her post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Advancement of Youth. 

Walker, who held research lab positions at the University of Memphis and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, is the co-author of several research publications. She has made presentations at more than a dozen scientific meetings and conferences, many on a national level, and has served as a supervised reviewer for several peer-reviewed publications.  

She has numerous continuing education and training workshops to her credit. Her extensive record of professional and volunteer service includes student mentoring.

Tammy Wigginton

Tammy Wigginton, recently a senior speech language pathologist at the University of Kentucky Voice and Swallow Clinic in Lexington, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery in the School of Medicine.  

Wigginton earned a Master of Science in Communication Disorders in 1991 at Murray State University in Kentucky, where she had also received her Bachelor of Science in speech pathology and audiology.   

After earning her MS, she worked as a speech language pathology manager and therapist at Professional Rehabilitation Center of Easley, South Carolina, before providing treatment services as a Traveling Speech Language Pathologist for several years at a variety of clinical settings. 

For four years, she served as a speech language pathologist for the University of Virginia Health Systems in Charlottesville, then worked several more years as a senior speech language pathologist for Froedtert Hospital/Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences in Milwaukee before joining the University of Kentucky. 

Her teaching activities include participation in a number of lecture series and serving as a guest lecturer at the University of Kentucky, University of Virginia and Eastern Kentucky University. Her list of scientific presentations at professional meetings and conferences is extensive. She has co-authored or contributed to three speech-language-pathology text book chapters.  

Wigginton is accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a board-certified specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders. She is a member of ASHA’s Dysphagia and Voice Disorder Special Interest Groups, the Dysphagia Research Society, and Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancer.  

She has received the ASHA Ace Award for Continuing Education numerous times.
