New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff. 

Dr. Osayande Agbonlahor

Dr. Osayande Agbonlahor, who recently earned his PhD in Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine in the John D. Bower School of Population Health.  

Agbonlahor, who earned an MD in 2017 at All Saints University College of Medicine of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, completed his Master of Public Health in 2020 at Central Michigan University.  

He is the lead author or co-author of more than a dozen peer-reviewed journal publications, a book chapter and two dozen scientific presentations. He also gained, research, teaching and mentoring experience at the University of Louisville and Central Michigan University. 

A member of the American Public Health Association and Royal Society for Public Health, Agbonlahor has several community volunteer efforts to his credit, including health screenings and other community service activities in Nigeria, Michigan and Kentucky.

Dr. Vikas Chauhan

Dr. Vikas Chauhan, recently an assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, New York, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology in the School of Medicine.  

Chauhan earned his medical degree (MBBS) in 2005 at Government Medical College in Nagpur, India, where he completed his internship before arriving at Lady Hardinge Medical College, University of Delhi, India, for his residency training in anesthesiology.  

He also completed a fellowship in neuro-anesthesiology and critical care at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India, and a post-doctoral clinical fellowship in neuro-anesthesiology at Columbia University Medical Center, where he was named Best Teacher of the Year in Neuro-anesthesiology, 2022-2023.  

Chauhan has made a number of invited and/or peer-selected presentations at regional, national and international meetings, as well as several oral and poster presentations. The co-author of at least 17 research publications and one book chapter, he is also an editorial board member of the International Journal of Anesthesia and Clinical Medicine and the Journal of Anesthesia and Research.  

Chauhan is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, International Anesthesia Research Society, Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care, Indian Society of Neuroanesthesiology and Critical Care, and Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists.

Dr. Reema Goel

Dr. Reema Goel, recently an assistant professor of radiology and radiological science in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, New York, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of radiology in the School of Medicine. 

Goel earned her medical degree in 2010 at the Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi, India, where she also completed a clinical internship. 

She completed further training as a fellow or resident in nuclear medicine at the Post Graduate Institute (PGI) of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India; pediatric radiology (research) at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland; nuclear medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas; and nuclear oncology (clinical) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York. 

Goel has held clinical or faculty positions at Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi; Dr. Anand’s Imaging and Neurological Research Centre, New Delhi; and The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She is the recipient of several awards and honors for her academic and research achievements. 

The co-author of more than a dozen research publications, 17 scientific papers presented at national and international conferences and a book chapter, Goel has also served as an editor or reviewer for several professional journals.   

Goel is a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging; World Association of Radiopharmaceutical and Molecular Therapy; Society of Nuclear Medicine, India; and Association of Nuclear Medicine Physicians of India.
