New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff. 

Dr. Supriya Bisht

Bisht

Dr. Supriya Bisht, recently a neonatal-perinatal medicine fellow at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, Bronx, New York, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics-neonatology in the School of Medicine. 

Bisht earned her medical degree at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medial College, Jhansi, Bundelkhand University, Uttar Pradesh, India, where she also completed her internship. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. 

She was also a Senior Registrar, pediatrics, at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, India, before joining Fortis Hospital, Noida, UP, India, serving there as a clinical associate, attending physician and associate consultant in neonatology.  

Afterwards, she arrived in the U.S. and completed a pediatrics residency at Brookdale Hospital and Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York. 

Bisht, who has earned a number of clinical and academic awards and honors, is the co-author of 18 scientific publications and has a number of poster and paper presentations and published abstracts to her credit. She has also participated in a number of professional development activities and quality improvement projects.  

She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, among other professional organizations.

Dr. Courtney Huval

Dr. Courtney Huval, recently a neuroimmunology/multiple sclerosis fellow at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of neurology in the School of Medicine. 

Huval, who earned her medical degree in 2019 at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, completed her residency in neurology at the University of Virginia Hospital, where she was chief resident. 

A member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Huval has held leadership positions in the American Academy of Neurology, Louisiana State Medical Society and American Medical Association, among other professional organizations.  

As a clinical educator, she has served as an instructor and evaluator. At the University of Virginia, she participated in several research projects.

Dr. Angela M. Monafo

Dr. Angela M. Monafo, recently a pediatric cardiology critical care fellow at the Medical University of South Carolina, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics-critical care in the School of Medicine. 

Monafo, who also holds a degree from Dartmouth College, earned her medical degree in 2017 at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, as well as a pediatric cardiology fellowship at MUSC, where she was chief fellow. 

Her teaching activities include service as a lecturer for residents and medical students and as an ethics course preceptor. 

She has received recognition for her dedication to patient care and for her volunteer service. Her community service record includes volunteer work with immigrant refugees and with a health care clinic for uninsured adults.  

Monafo, who has participated in scientific investigations, is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology and American Medical Association.
