New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff. 

Dr. Nathan Alexander

Dr. Nathan Alexander, recently an internal medicine-pediatrics resident at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics in the School of Medicine. 

A 2020 graduate of the UMMC School of Medicine, Alexander received honors for his accomplishments as a resident and resident teacher/leader. He completed his residency on the clinician educator track. 

He has coauthored a number of scientific publications and participated in several presentations at conferences, workshops and other professional meetings. 

Alexander has numerous volunteer activities to his credit, including community service, and his record of leadership and mentorship is extensive. He has a passion for medical student and resident education.

Dr. Jimikumar Patel

Dr. Jimikumar Patel, recently a perinatal medicine fellow at Cohen Children’s Medical Center/Northwell Health in Queens, New York, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics-neonatology in the School of Medicine. 

Patel earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree in 2012 at the Baroda Medical College in Baroda, Gujarat, India. His pediatric residency training was at R.N.T. Medical College/Rajasthan State University of Health Science in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India, and at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in Queens, New York, where he served as chief resident. He also completed the first year of a perinatal medicine fellowship at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children/Tower Health in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a resident, he was awarded several honors. 

Board-certified in pediatrics, he has served as an attending physician, pediatric, at Lions Trust Children's Hospital in Gujarat, India; pediatric CICU hospitalist at BM Birla Heart Research Centre, Kolkata, India; pediatric NICU hospitalist at Bhagirathi Neotia Women and Child Care Center, Kolkata, India; a clinical observer in the PICU and NICU at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Ohio; and a clinical observer, pediatric CICU, at Boston Children’s Hospital in Massachusetts. 

Patel, who has clinical research and clinical trial experience, has a number of invited lectures and professional presentations to his credit. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Jawed A. Siddiqui

Dr. Jawed A. Siddiqui, recently an assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of cell and molecular biology in the School of Medicine. 

Siddiqui, who also holds a Master of Science in Biotechnology from the University of Calicut, Kerala, India, earned his PhD in Endocrinology (bone biology, osteoporosis and cancer) in 2012 at the Central Drug Research Institute in Lucknow, India.  

He trained as a post-doctoral fellow (diabetes and hypertension) at the University of California San Diego and as a research associate (chemokine biology in bone research) in the Department of Basic Science and Craniofacial Biology at New York University and, finally, in prostate cancer bone metastasis at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. 

Siddiqui, who has been awarded a variety of grants for his research projects, holds three patents and has served as editor or guest editor for several professional journals and scientific research papers. He has also served as an ad hoc reviewer for more than a dozen National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) journals and as editor for several NCBI database journals. 

The co-author of more than 70 articles published in scholarly journals and more than 20 abstracts, Siddiqui has also co-written two book chapters. He has extensive experience as a teacher and lecturer. 

Throughout his career, he has earned numerous honors and awards. His professional memberships include those with the NYU Center for Skeletal and Craniofacial Biology, Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, American Association for Cancer Research, New York Academy of Sciences, Endocrine Society, International Bone and Mineral Society, and Endocrine Fellows Foundation.
