New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Dr. Margaret M. Cosnahan
Dr. Margaret M. Cosnahan, recently an internal medicine resident at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine-hospitalist, in the School of Medicine.
Cosnahan, who worked for two years as an emergency room tech assistant at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, then pursued her medical degree at the UMMC School of Medicine, graduating in 2021 before beginning her internal medicine residency at the Medical Center.
Her research experience includes participation in a number of scientific presentations and coauthoring a variety of publications. She has an extensive record of community service and leadership, including participation in several volunteer projects in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Andrew W. Garza
Dr. Andrew W. Garza, a former chief resident of emergency medicine and recent sports medicine fellowship graduate from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of emergency medicine in the School of Medicine.
Garza graduated in 2020 from the UMMC School of Medicine. As a medical student and resident, he earned recognition for his clinical skills, research and volunteer service. He undertook leadership roles on various committees and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Garza has several scientific publications, presentations and submissions to his credit. His volunteer activities include participation in Omni Med Uganda, a program dedicated to improving the country of Uganda’s rural health.
For four years, he was a University of Mississippi delegate to the Mississippi State Medical Association. Garza has also served as a UMMC School of Medicine Ambassador and as a medical student delegate at the annual meeting of the Southern Group on Educational Affairs.

Dr. Juliana Sitta
Dr. Juliana Sitta, recently a diagnostic radiology resident at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as instructor of radiology in the School of Medicine.
Sitta earned her medical degree in 2015 at the Universidade de Caxias do Sul in Brazil. She completed a residency in diagnostic radiology at Hospital Pompeia in Caxias do Sul before commencing her second diagnostic radiology residency in 2020 at UMMC, where she is also currently pursuing a graduate degree in Biomedical Sciences.
Sitta, who has been awarded a number of academic and research honors, is the coauthor of several publications in scientific journals. She has coauthored or participated in more than 80 peer-reviewed abstracts and poster presentations, as well as a variety of oral presentations.
