New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Dr. Osasere Kelvin Ero
Dr. Osasere Kelvin Ero, recently a pediatric cardiology fellow at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics-cardiology in the School of Medicine.
After receiving his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Benin School of Medicine in Benin City, Edo, Nigeria, he was a house officer at Central Hospital in Benin City before his National Youth Service. Ero also served as an independent medical officer at Presbyterian Joint Hospital, Ekoli Edda, Ebonyi, Nigeria. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Mississippi Medical Center before his pediatric residency.
He has participated in several scientific presentations, including poster presentations and abstracts, and is the coauthor of several publications in professional journals. Ero has undertaken his own research and quality improvement projects.
His record of community service includes health education, mentorship, volunteer medical services and more. Ero is a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association.

Dr. Meredith Sloan
Dr. Meredith Sloan, recently a pulmonary and critical care medicine chief fellow at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor medicine-pulmonary in the School of Medicine.
After earning her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, she completed her internal medicine residency at UMMC as chief resident. Her medical work experience includes stints as a PRN hospitalist at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Jackson, a general medicine attending physician at UMMC and a PRN intensivist at Jackson Pulmonary Associates in Jackson.
Sloan, who has several years of teaching experience and curriculum development, also has undertaken a number of research projects; she has participated in poster and oral presentations while coauthoring a variety of scientific publications. Her academic and research honors include being named Research Fellow of the Year in 2023 by the UMMC Department of Medicine.
Sloan is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society, American College of Physicians and Southern Society for Clinical Investigation.

Dr. Rajachendra S. Tumma
Dr. Rajachendra S. Tumma, recently a hospitalist at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine in the School of Medicine.
Tumma earned his MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) in 2006 at Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, India. He completed his residency in internal medicine in 2016 at Ochsner University Hospital and Clinics in Lafayette, Louisiana.
He has also served as a primary care physician in Jeanerette, Louisiana, and Franklin, Louisiana; and as a hospitalist at Lafayette General Medical Center in Louisiana.
Tumma’s research experience includes participation in scientific investigations at Wayne State University in Detroit, Detroit Medical Center and the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Michigan.
