New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Dr. Keith L. Carter, who recently practiced at Jackson Anesthesia Associates in Jackson, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology in the School of Medicine.

Carter, who is board-certified in anesthesiology, earned his medical degree at the School of Medicine at UMMC in 2001 before completing an internal medicine internship at Mercy Medical Center, University of Maryland, in Baltimore, followed by an anesthesiology and critical care fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

At Jackson Anesthesia Associates, where he worked beginning in 2005, Carter served in various roles, including group president.

Dr. Sabrina DeLeon

Dr. Sabrina DeLeon, who recently completed her residency in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of psychiatry and human behavior in the School of Medicine.

DeLeon graduated in 2020 from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock before beginning her psychiatry residency at UMMC.

She is the recipient of several academic honors including the UMMC Pillar of Excellence in 2023 and the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry Innovation in Medical Education Award in 2021.

She has extensive experience in a variety of clinical research projects, scientific presentations and publications with special interests in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and educational curriculum development. Her specific clinical interests include cultural psychiatry, women's mental health, integrative health and group psychotherapy.
