New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Dr. Sumana Ghosh
Dr. Sumana Ghosh, recently a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Otolaryngology and Communicative Sciences at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery in the School of Medicine.
Ghosh earned a Master of Science in biochemistry at Bangalore University in Bangalore, India, and a Master of Science in cancer cell and molecular biology at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom before completing her PhD in the Department of Pharmacology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield in 2017.
Before completing her postdoctoral research fellowship at UMMC, she was a postdoctoral research associate at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City, Missouri.
A member of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology, Ghosh is the author or co-author of 10 scientific publications, two book chapters and other professional publications. She has served as editorial board member, review editor and ad hoc reviewer for several professional journals and has made a number of scientific conference presentations.
Her areas of research expertise include auditory biology, microscopy, and molecular biology and genetics.

Dr. Tonya Moore
Dr. Tonya Moore, CEO of MooreNOW, a leadership consulting firm in Flowood, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of nursing instruction in the School of Nursing.
Moore earned a Master of Science in Nursing, Health Systems Executive, at UMMC and her Doctor of Philosophy Degree, Nursing Research, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she also received a Certificate of Teaching in Nursing.
After working as a staff nurse at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Vicksburg for two years, she joined the Medical Center, where she served in a variety of roles over the years, including staff nurse in pediatrics and in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, clinical nurse educator, nurse manager, nurse recruiter, program coordinator of the Health Careers Development Program, Chief Learning Officer, administrator of Community Health Services, and executive director of Leadership and Workforce Development.
Throughout her career, she has received a number of honors, including the Myrlie Evers-Williams Institute’s Minority Health Leader Award; Best in Nursing Award of Excellence from the American Health Council, the Mississippi Hospital Association Nurse Executive Award and many more.
She is a member of the American Nurses Association, Mississippi Nurses Association, Toastmasters International, National Black Nurses Association, Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses of Mississippi and other professional organizations.
Moore, who has made numerous professional presentations, served in a variety of leadership roles, including president of the board of directors for the Mississippi Nurse Association and member of the board of directors of the Mississippi Telehealth Association.
