New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Dr. Kartikeya Singh Jodha
Dr. Kartikeya Singh Jodha, recently a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor of biomedical materials science in the School of Dentistry.
Jodha, who has received numerous honors and awards for research and scholarship. earned his PhD in Biomedical Materials Science at UMMC in 2021. He also did research at the Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela in India; BioIntel Research Lab at the University of Kansas in Lawrence; and Yogeshwar Implants Private Limited in India.
Jodha has worked on various research projects, including failure analysis of dental ceramics and fatigue testing of dental crowns and implants. He has recently been working on using artificial intelligence to perform failure analysis in ceramics. He has coauthored a variety of peer-reviewed scientific publications and his list of oral and poster presentations is extensive.
Jodha is a member of the Academy of Dental Materials, International Association for Dental Research, American Association for Dental Research, Mississippi Academy of Sciences, Fracto Forum International, and other professional organizations.

Lauren A. Walker
Lauren A. Walker, recently a genetic counselor at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor and genetic counselor in the School of Medicine.
Walker earned her Master of Science in Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling in 2022 at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She worked for more than five years at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, first as a genetic counselor assistant, then as a genetic counselor following completion of her master’s degree.
Her experience in clinical rotation and fieldwork in Philadelphia included stints at Wills Eye Hospital, Fox Chase Cancer Center and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She also interned at Geisinger Health System in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, in autism & developmental medicine; Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Newnan, Georgia, in cancer genetics; and Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown and Easton, Pennsylvania, in maternal fetal medicine.
Walker, a board-certified genetic counselor, is a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and Ohio Association of Genetic Counselors.

Dr. Amanda Strobel
Dr. Amanda Strobel, recently an assistant professor of pediatric hematology/oncology and vice chair of the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, University of Florida, in Pensacola, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an associate professor of pediatrics-hematology/oncology in the School of Medicine.
Strobel received her medical degree in 2011 from the School of Medicine at UMMC where she also completed her residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology.
At Studer, she served as the associate program director for the University of Florida Pediatric Residency Program in Pensacola and had a special interest in board preparation and curriculum.
She earned a number of honors and awards at Studer and UMMC as a physician, resident and teacher. At both institutions, she has been active in institutional service as a member, leader or preceptor for a dozen committees and programs.
Strobel enjoys resident and fellow education and mentorship and has served on numerous committees as an advocate. Her goal is to expand her role in the pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship program at UMMC.
A published researcher, she has also made two dozen oral presentations.
Board-certified in general pediatrics and in pediatric hematology/oncology, Strobel is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Children’s Oncology Group, and Association of Pediatric Program Directors.
