New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff. 

Dr. Yanglin Guo

Dr. Yanglin Guo, recently an interventional pulmonology fellow at New York University Langone Health, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine-pulmonary care and critical medicine in the School of Medicine. 

He earned his medical degree in 2014 at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, before completing his residency in internal medicine and then a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at UMMC.  

At the Medical Center, he also served previously as an assistant professor of medicine-pulmonary care and critical medicine and as a clinician educator in pulmonary and critical care medicine. His academic honors include Department of Medicine Fellow of the Year at UMMC.  

Guo is the co-author of several professional journal publications and has made numerous poster presentations at local, regional and international events. He is board-certified in critical care medicine, pulmonary medicine and internal medicine.  

He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society, Society of Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary Hypertension Association, and American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology.

Luressie M. Jones-Lee

Luressie M. Jones-Lee, recently a registered medical laboratory scientist in molecular pathology at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medical laboratory science in the School of Health Related Professions. 

She earned her Master of Science in Biological Science at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley in 2020 and is pursuing her PhD in Public Health-Epidemiology at Jackson State University. Jones-Lee is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science and a 2016 alumna of the School of Health Related Professions’ Medical Laboratory Science program. 

She has worked as a registered medical laboratory scientist for the HLA-Transplant Department and Lakeland Family Medical Clinic at UMMC and at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. For several years, she served as a guest lecturer on a variety of topics for the Medical Laboratory Science Program in SHRP at UMMC.   

Jones-Lee has a certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology. Her areas of competency include molecular diagnostics, next-generation sequencing, core laboratory assays and more. Currently, she serves as one of the newest members of the board of directors for the UMMC SHRP Alumni Board.  

She is an undergraduate inductee in the Alpha Eta Honor Society and a member of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

Dr. Donna W. Stauter

Dr. Donna W. Stauter, recently an occupational therapist/clinical instructor at The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of occupational therapy in the School of Health Related Professions. 

Stauter earned her Doctor of Science in Rehabilitation Science-Pediatric Emphasis in 2018 at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, where she had received her Master of Science in the same area of study. 

She has also recently served as an adjunct instructor of physical therapy at William Carey University in Hattiesburg. For more than 30 years, she was owner, supervisor, employer and clinician at Pediatric Occupational Therapy LLC, offering outpatient, home-based and school-based services in Hattiesburg.  

For 15 years, she was an occupational therapist consultant/instructor at the Institute for Disability Studies at USM and served as an occupational therapist for more than 15 south Mississippi school districts.   

She has also provided early intervention OT services in the First Steps Early Intervention Program for the Mississippi State Department of Health; served as a wheelchair and durable medical equipment evaluator for the Children’s Medical Program/Blake Clinic in Jackson; and clinical instructor for OT and OT Assistant students for multiple universities and colleges in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Tennessee.  

Stauter, a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, is the lead author of peer-reviewed publications regarding literacy instruction for children with speech and physical impairments. She received a number of grants benefitting, among others, The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at USM. Her record of community service is extensive.
