New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff. 

Lisa K. Hosey

Lisa K. Hosey, most recently an emergency room nurse at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in the School of Nursing.

Hosey earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2009 at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. At UMMC, she earned a Master of Science in Nursing/Nursing Educator Track degree and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

She has clinical experience at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, River Oaks Hospital in Flowood and Baptist Medical Clinic-Clinton. For more than eight years, until November 2021, she worked in the Emergency Department at the Medical Center. For the past five years, she also served as an instructor at Hinds Community College.

Hosey is certified in basic life support and in advanced cardiac life support. She has won numerous scholarships, awards and other honors, including induction into the Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Society. She is a member of the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing.

Dr. Vignesh Hebri Nayak

Dr. Vignesh Hebri Nayak, who recently completed a pediatric pulmonary and sleep medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics in the School of Medicine.

Nayak, who is board-certified in general pediatrics, received his MBBS in 2009 from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute in Bangalore, India, and his MD in 2013 from Ravindra Nath Tagore Medical College, Udaipur, in Rajasthan, India. He completed his residency in general pediatrics at the University of Florida Pediatrics Residency Program in Pensacola.

He is co-author or co-presenter of a variety of research manuscripts, published abstracts and poster exhibits and has participated in several research projects.

Nayak is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society and American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Marivee Borges Rodriguez

Dr. Marivee Borges Rodriguez, recently a pediatric clinical cardiology fellow at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics in the School of Medicine.

Borges Rodriguez earned her medical degree in 2014 from the School of Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, in San Juan, where she also completed her residency at University Pediatric Hospital. She also completed a fellowship, in pediatric critical care, at UMMC’s Batson Children’s Hospital. She served for a year as an assistant professor of pediatric critical care medicine at UMMC.

Borges Rodriguez has participated in research projects at UMMC; the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus; and the University of Puerto Rico in Cayey, and is a co-author or participant in a variety of research publications and poster presentations.

She has been a volunteer on several medical missions, including those to Haiti and Guatemala.
