OB-GYN, internal med chief resident join faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Stephanie Gong, M.D.

Dr. Stephanie Gong has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology.

A native of Jackson, Gong received her B.S. in biology cum laude from Rhodes College, Memphis, Tennessee, in 2005, and earned her M.D. at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Lexington, in 2009. She had residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at UMMC from 2009-13. She then worked in private practice for seven years before returning to UMMC.

A fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Gong is a board certified OB-GYN and an active member of the American Medical Association and the Mississippi State Medical Association. She was an Omicron Delta Kappa inductee and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and a three-time All-American in tennis at Rhodes College.

Yousaf Zafar, M.B.B.S.

Dr. Yousaf Zafar, recently a chief resident in internal medicine at Naples (Florida) Community Healthcare, an affiliate of the Mayo Clinic School of Medical Sciences, and a clinical instructor at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.

After earning his M.B.B.S. with distinction in anatomy, general pathology, biochemistry and behavioral sciences in 2014 at the C.M.H. Lahore Medical College in Pakistan, Zafar had residency training in internal medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City from 2016-19 before joining Naples Community Healthcare.

An active member of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology, among other professional organizations, Zafar is the author or coauthor of 26 articles or abstracts in peer-reviewed publications and 39 research posters.
