Huntsville hospital medical director joins Medical Center faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following addition to its faculty and leadership staff.

Jennifer A. Cox, M.D.

Dr. Jennifer A. Cox, medical director of the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at the Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an associate professor of pediatrics.

After receiving her B.S. in biochemistry and molecular biology cum laude from Mississippi State University in 1993, Cox earned her M.D. in 1997 at UMMC, where she had pediatric residency training from 1997-2000. She was chief resident and instructor of pediatrics at UMMC from 2000-01, then had a pediatric hematology and oncology fellowship from 2001-04 and a bone marrow transplant fellowship from 2004-05 at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, and a bone marrow transplant fellowship in 2005 at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.

Cox joined the UT Southwestern Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics in 2005 and served as an attending physician at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. In 2011, she became an attending physician at the St. Jude Clinic, Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children, and was promoted to medical director in 2015. She also served as a volunteer faculty member at the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Medicine and as an adjunct faculty member at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Past chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Huntsville Hospital and secretary of the medical staff, Cox is an active member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and the Children’s Oncology Group. She has served on numerous hospital and medical center committees and administration has been her focus. She has authored or co-authored five articles in peer-reviewed journals and six scientific abstracts, and has presented 11 invited lectures nationally.
