Drexel U emergency med specialists join Medical Center faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

David James Vearrier, M.D.

Dr. David James Vearrier, associate professor of emergency medicine at the Drexel University College of Medicine, has joined the Medical Center faculty as a professor of emergency medicine.

After receiving his B.A. in history and in psychology from the University of California Berkeley in 2000, Vearrier earned his M.D. at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine in 2005. He had emergency medicine residency training from 2005-08 and a medical toxicology fellowship from 2008-10 at the Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

A core faculty member in the Division of Medical Toxicology, Department of Emergency Medicine, in the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network from 2010-11, Vearrier joined the Drexel University College of Medicine faculty in 2011 as an assistant professor of emergency medicine. He also earned his M.P.H. at the Drexel University School of Public Health in 2013 and had residency training in occupational medicine at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine from 2013-15. He was promoted to associate professor of emergency medicine at the Drexel University College of Medicine in 2016.

Inducted into the Beta Omega Chapter of the Delta Omega Public Health Honor Society in 2013, Vearrier received the Emerging Clinical Leader and Innovation Award from the Drexel University College of Medicine in 2019. A fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology, the American College of Medical Toxicology and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and an active member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Vearrier has served on numerous institutional committees.

Peer reviewer for a number of MEDLINE-indexed journals, chief editor of Medscape Drugs & Diseases and associate editor of the Visual Journal of Emergency Medicine, he is the author or coauthor of more than 60 articles in peer-reviewed publications, three book chapters and about 30 other articles in non-traditional publications. A well-sought speaker, Vearrier has given more than 20 invited presentations nationally and has authored or coauthored more than 75 scientific abstracts.

 

Laura Vearrier, M.D.

Dr. Laura Vearrier, an associate professor of emergency medicine at the Drexel University College of Medicine, has joined he Medical Center faculty as an associate professor of emergency medicine.

After receiving her B.A. in molecular biology from Princeton University, New Jersey, in 2003, Vearrier earned her M.D. at Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 2007. She had residency training in emergency medicine at the Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from 2007-10 and at Aria Health, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from 2010-12.

Vearrier joined the Drexel University College of Medicine faculty in 2012 as a clinical assistant professor of emergency medicine. She received her M.A. in bioethics and health policy in 2016 and her Doctor of Bioethics in 2018 from the Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics, Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois. In 2019 she was promoted to associate professor of emergency medicine at the Drexel University College of Medicine. She is a Certified Healthcare Ethics Consultant.

A fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and an active member of the Academy for Professionalism in Health Care and the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, Vearrier serves on the editorial board of and as a peer reviewer for the Visual Journal of Emergency Medicine. She is the author or coauthor of 12 articles in peer-reviewed publications, one full-length paper in press and 18 brief reports in press. A guest lecturer at Temple University and at the Drexel University College of Medicine, she has taken part in multiple media appearances, competitive or peer-reviewed presentations and invited presentations.
