Pediatric expansion heads to strong finish

Published on Thursday, September 12, 2019

Earlier this summer, a busy construction site was still one June afternoon. Leaders in medicine, business and philanthropy had gathered to watch as a beam draped with a rainbow of streamers rose to the top of our seven-story pediatric expansion in a topping-out ceremony.

A beam covered with hundreds of signatures is prepared for a crane ride up to the seventh floor of UMMC’s pediatric expansion.

June 27, the date for the Growing Up Together event and reception, was filled with celebration and hope, but just as important, once the party ended, the work to complete this historic pediatric expansion picked right back up.

Cheering when milestones such as the new

children’s hospital tower reaching its full height powers enthusiasm for a strong finish for this project, which will transform pediatric care at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Work has moved from the tower’s structure to the hospital’s interior. Walls and windows will frame the spaces where care is provided and lives will be saved.

While we have so much to celebrate in this project, now is the time for us to rededicate ourselves to a strong finish for this expansion. The Campaign for Children’s of Mississippi, through generous gifts, has raised more than 75 percent of its $100 million goal to help complete this project, and we look forward to the day when we reach this momentous goal and this transformational children’s hospital expansion is opened

Thank you for your vision, your energy and your generosity in bringing this project toward a successful opening in fall 2020.
