Johns Hopkins prof to talk adult cortical plasticity recovery

Dr. Hey-Kyoung Lee, professor of neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University, will give the UMMC Neurobiology and Anatomical Sciences Seminar Series presentation, "Cross-Modal Recovery of Cortical Plasticity in Adults," from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in classroom 3A (North Wing N318).

CIH director to connect, share, advance 'sleep hygiene'​

Dr. Danny Burgess, associate professor, director of the Center for Integrative Health and co-director of the Student Counseling and Wellness Center, will give the UMMC Group on Women in Health and Science's "Connect, Share, Advance" session, "Improving Sleep Hygiene: A Talk that will Surely Put You to Sleep," from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).

JHS to host football-themed 2019 Exam Center Kick Off

​The Jackson Heart Study will provide information about Exam 4 and will offer free health screenings during the 2019 Exam Center Kick Off on Saturday, Sept. 21, at center stage in the Jackson Medical Mall.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with health screenings to take place from 8-9:45 a.m. and the exam center update to follow from 10 a.m.-noon.

Women at Risk founder to discuss health care's role in trafficking

​Rebecca McDonald, founder and president of Women at Risk International, will give the Division of Continuing Health Professional Education and School of Medicine Community Service Team presentation, "Health Care's Role in Sex Trafficking," from 1-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the student union.

Collegiate scholars set to heat up RICE competition

Selected graduate students from diverse backgrounds in a range of academic disciplines will participate in the annual Rural Interdisciplinary Case Experience (RICE) Bowl, an interactive competition to provide the best solution for a realistic scenario about complex rural health issues from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in lecture hall 124 in the medical education building.

Sponsored by the Myrlie Evers-Williams Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities, the event will include participants from Jackson State University, Mississippi College, Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi and UMMC. A reception will follow the competition.
