In Memoriam: Dr. Wayne L. Rone

Dr. Waymond (Wayne) Lee Rone, a longtime radiologist at UMMC, died Aug. 19. He was 87.

A native of Portageville, Missouri, Rone attended Kemper Military School in Booneville, Missouri and graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans. A second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, he was a Korean War veteran.

President of his fourth-year medical school class, he attended the University of Mississippi Medical School and specialized in radiology. He went on to subspecialize in neuroradiology and served as president of the Mississippi Radiological Society.

Rone practiced neuroradiology for 50 years and served as chief of staff at Hinds General Hospital and medical director of the hospital’s radiology department. He was accepted into the American College of Radiology.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Rone’s name to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral and to UMMC.
