School of Nursing welcomes associate administration dean

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following addition to its faculty and leadership staff.

Joseph Wilson Tacy, Ph.D.

Dr. Joseph Wilson Tacy, assistant professor of nursing and associate director for undergraduate programs in the School of Nursing at James Madison University, has joined the Medical Center faculty as associate dean of administration and associate professor for the School of Nursing.

After receiving his B.A. in 2004 from West Virginia University, Tacy earned his A.S.N. in 2007 at Davis and Elkins College, Elkins, West Virginia, and began a 10-year stint as a nursing administrator and patient care supervisor at Santara RMH Medical Center, Harrisonburg, West Virginia. He earned his M.S.N. in 2011 at the James Madison University School of Nursing, Harrisonburg, and served as a patient care supervisor for Sentara RMH Medical Center, Harrisonburg, from 2011-16. He acquired his Ph.D. in nursing (research-focused) in 2015 from the University of Texas at Tyler College of Nursing and Health Science. In 2014, Tacy joined the James Madison University School of Nursing faculty, serving as a program coordinator for its graduate program from 2015-16 and as an associate director for undergraduate programs from 2016-19.

A fellow of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Leadership for Academic Nursing Program, Tacy is an active member of The American Organization of Nurse Leaders, the American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International, among other professional societies. The author or coauthor of four articles in peer-reviewed professional publications and five posters presented at scientific meetings nationally, he has given four invited presentations and has served on numerous school and university committees. His research interests include technology, nursing education, administration, quality improvement, technostress, leadership, civility, new development and advancement, management, and informatics.
