Dr. Sherry Felder, a graduate of the School of Nursing and a longtime R.N. and School of Nursing faculty member at UMMC, died last week. She was 66.

A memorial service took place at Parkway Hills United Methodist Church on Jan. 19. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Parkway Hills United Methodist Church in Madison, the Lelomyosarcoma Foundation or to any chosen charity.

A native of New Orleans, Felder graduated from Covington High School in Louisiana and received her B.S.N. summa cum laude from UMMC in 1988. She also earned her M.S.N. in 1992 and her Ph.D. in 2007 at the University of Mississippi. She was a Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Theta Tau inductee.

She served as an assistant professor of nursing at UMMC from 1993-2003 and again from 2005-10. Her retirement citation credited her for “assistance in developing curriculum for distance learning and planning of the Oxford program in nursing, for the example she set for students as a lifetime learner and for leadership of the nursing alumni chapter.”

Felder's daughter, Sara Watts, is a pediatric cardiology nurse in Batson Children's Hospital.
