Dermatology professor to discuss skin cancer basics
Dr. Robert Brodell, professor of dermatology, will discuss how to minimize risk and spot the early warning signs of melanoma and other skin cancers during a lunchtime presentation, "The Basics of Skin Cancer," from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the Hospital Administration large conference room.

Physiology postdoc fellow to investigate renal lipotoxicity
Dr. Samuel O. Adeosun, a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, will give the Physiology Seminar Series presentation, “Using CRISPR-Cas9 to Investigate the Role of Biliverdin Reductase-A in Renal Lipotoxicity,” from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, in room 6A.

UAB professor to give Physiologists in Training Lecture
Dr. Suzanne Oparil, Distinguished Professor of Medicine, professor of cell, developmental and integrative biology, section chief of vascular, and director of the Vascular Biology and Hypertension Program in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, will give the Department of Physiology’s Physiologists in Training Distinguished Lecture, “My Road to Academic Cardiology,” from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Chancellor, vice chancellor to speak at faculty meeting
Dr. Jeffrey Vitter, University of Mississippi chancellor, and Dr. LouAnn Woodward, vice chancellor for health affairs, are scheduled to speak at the fall faculty meeting at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).
Vitter and Woodward will provide an update on the university and the Medical Center for the next fiscal year. The agenda also will include a recognition of faculty with 20 years of service.
Full-time faculty members who have 20 years of continuous full-time faculty service are asked to contact Dorothy Singleton by Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the phone number or address listed below.
