Peds gastroenterologist, pain specialist join UMMC faculty

The Medical Center is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff:

Dr. Anshu Maheshwari, a recent pediatric gastroenterology fellow at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics.

After receiving her bachelor's of medicine and surgery from the University of Delhi, Maulana Azad Medical College and associated Lok Nayak, GB Pant Hospital, New Delhi, India, in 2004, Maheshwari did pediatric residency training there from 2006-09. She then did her pediatric residency training at the University of Connecticut, Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Hartford, from 2010-12 and her pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at the duPont Hospital, Wilmington, Delaware, from 2012-15.

Maheshwari's research interests include risk factors of liver disease in obese children, serologic markers in children with celiac disease and improving quality of care for pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease.


 

William Earl Gusa Jr., MD

Dr. William Earl Gusa Jr., a pain medicine specialist and medical director of Grand View Hospice, Doylestown, Pennsylvania, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology.

After receiving his BS from Fordham University, Bronx, New York, in 1981, Gusa earned his MD at the Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts, in 1985. He had residency training in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, Hartford, Connecticut, from 1985-86 and in anesthesiology at SUNY at Buffalo Affiliated Hospitals from 1986-88. He also had a subspecialty year in pain management at SUNY from 1988-89.

Gusa has had more than a dozen years of experience as a staff anesthesiologist at various hospitals in the Northeast, including Day Kimball Hospital and Rockville General Hospital. He joined Grand View Hospital in 1994 as a staff anesthesiologist and medical director of Grand View Hospice. He also has served as medical director of Pain Medicine Specialists PA from 2001-15. His main clinical role has been seeing patients through his practice at Pain Medicine Specialists.

He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
