Gastroenterologist, hospitalist, Telehealth coordinator swell faculty ranks

The Medical Center is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff:

Chelsey Andries, MSN

Chelsey Andries, a School of Nursing graduate and pediatric care coordinator in the Center for Telehealth, has joined the UMMC faculty as an instructor in nursing.

After receiving her BSN in 2010 and while earning her MSN in 2015 from UMMC, Andries served as a staff nurse and nurse educator for Children's of Mississippi. She joined the Center for Telehealth in 2015.

Recipient of the Chief Nursing Officer Circle of Excellence Award since 2014, Andries has given several staff teaching sessions and one poster presentation at UMMC. She is an active member of the American Society of Pediatric Nurses and the Mississippi Nurses Association.


 

Pegah Hosseini-Carroll, MD

Dr. Pegah Hosseini-Carroll has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine. She practices general gastroenterology with interests in colon cancer screening, obesity and women's health.

Hosseini-Carroll completed her undergraduate education at Tulane University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in neuroscience in 2004. The following year, she obtained her Master of Science Degree, also in neuroscience. She earned her MD at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Shreveport, in 2009.

Her graduate medical training was completed in Shreveport with a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology. She was Gastroenterology Chief Fellow from 2014-15.

Hosseini-Carroll is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology. She is married to Dr. Jonathan Carroll, assistant professor of surgery.

 


 

Venkatraraman Palabindala, MD

Dr. Venkatraraman Palabindala, a hospitalist and clerkship director at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.

After receiving his MBBS from the Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences, Narketpally, Telangana and the NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, India, in 2007, Palabindala had residency training in internal medicine at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Maryland, where he was chief medical resident from 2011-12.

Palabindala joined Southeast Alabama Medical Center, Dothan, in 2012 as a hospitalist in its Department of Internal Medicine and has served on the department's clinical teaching staff at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine since 2013. In 2015 he also served SAMC as a home health director and as a clerkship director.

An active member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM), the American College of Physicians, the American Diabetes Association and the American Medical Association, he is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the Society of Hospital Medicine. Palabindala is the founder and president of SHM's Wiregrass chapter, which won the 2015 Silver Chapter Award. He has served on national committees for the SHM and currently serves on the organization's IT committee. He plans to start a local SHM chapter in Jackson.

The author or coauthor of six articles in peer-reviewed scientific publications, Palabindala has given numerous presentations at scientific meetings and conferences in the U.S. and Canada. His primary focus is on quality and patient safety.
