UMMC clinicians obtain wound specialist certification
Dr. Laura Vick, associate professor in the Division of General Surgery, and Gloria Jaques, nurse practitioner in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, have completed requirements for selection as certified wound specialists by the American Board of Wound Management.
Vick is one of only seven physicians in Mississippi to obtain the Certified Wound Specialist Physician certification. Jaques is one of only five nurse practitioners in the state to carry the Certified Wound Specialist certification. They serve patients for chronic wounds in the Medical Center’s Wound Management Specialty Clinic in the University Physicians Pavilion.
The CWS board certification is a formal recognition of a master level of knowledge and specialty practice in wound management. To be a candidate, the applicant must have a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree; must have a current license as a health care professional; and must provide documentation demonstrating at least three years of clinical experience in wound care.
The American Board of Wound Management requires continuing education in wound management to be eligible for re-certification, in addition to passing an exam every 10 years.
