Biography: Emily Kea Brumfield is a certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner who has been working in Neurology as a nurse practitioner for 14 years. She began her medical career as a nurse in 2001, when she graduated from UMMC School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Nursing. Emily worked in the UMMC Adult Emergency Department, and in Critical Care prior to completing her Master of Nursing at UMMC. She has specialized in several different subspecialties throughout her NP career. Emily has worked as an Endovascular Neuroradiology NP; in which, a large part of her job was Research Coordinator on SAMMPRIS and several humanitarian devices such as intracranial stents, aneurysm coils, and AVM treatments. She has also specialized in Stroke, serving as Stroke Nurse Practitioner in the inpatient and outpatient settings. She currently works in the outpatient setting. She specializes in treating patients with Epilepsy, but also treats general Neurology patients. She was recently invited to and attended The Kiffin Penry Epilepsy Mini Fellowship for APPs. Emily has held several leadership positions across her career. She served as Chair of the UMMC Advanced Practice Provider Committee, has been an active member of The Mississippi Healthcare Alliance, and the Stroke and Joint Coordinator for Merit Health Hospitals in the greater Jackson, MS area. She is currently a member of the American Academy of Neurology, Mississippi Nursing Association, and American Epilepsy Society. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, golfing, running, and making bath bombs.
