Recessional Map Image Long Description

Overview

The image is a layout map of the Mississippi Coliseum and Trade Mart located at High Street in Jackson, MS, that includes recession guides for Faculty, Honors Faculty, Hooders, Platform Party, and Students for UMMC Commencement services.

The map consists of a bird’s eye view of the Coliseum and Trade Mart with colored boxes and arrows (designating walking paths) for recession out of the MS Coliseum Arena.

Recessional

The order of the Commencement recessional is as follows:

• The Platform Party
• Hooders, all students by School, Faculty Honors, and Faculty, simultaneously

Platform Party

The Platform Party, including members of the MS Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees and guests of the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, exits the MS Coliseum Arena first.

They leave the Platform through the upstage left stairwell, following the gray-colored walking path through the southeast door behind the Platform, turn right in the MS Coliseum hallway, and enter the “Gray Room.”

Hooders, All Students by School, Honors Faculty, and Faculty

The Hooders, led by their section (left or right aisle marshal), exit on either side of the Platform from the outside aisle towards the front of the MS Coliseum Arena, exiting through the rollaway doors directly behind the Platform. The Hooders follow the gold-colored walking path, followed by the schools, honors faculty, and faculty.

• The left aisle Hooders lead the School of Nursing (SON; orange-colored walking path), the School of Health Related Professions (SHRP; peach-colored walking path), and Faculty (Robin’s Egg Blue-colored walking path) through the northeast area behind the Platform, through the rollaway doors behind the Platform, and into the Exhibit Hall B of the Trade Mart.
• The right aisle Hooders lead the School of Dentistry (SOD; purple-colored walking path), the School of Medicine (SOM; green-colored walking path, the John D. Bower School of Population Health (SOPH; pink-colored walking path), the School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences (SGSHS; teal-colored walking path), the Honors Faculty (brown-colored walking path), and the Faculty (Robin’s Egg Blue-colored walking path) through the southeast area behind the Platform, through the rollaway doors behind the Platform, and into the Exhibit Hall C of the Trade Mart.

 

Regalia Return

On the top of the image is a diagram of the Trade Mart with two designated areas marked for rented regalia return and The Medic pickup in Trade Mart Hall Exhibit Hall C. Students, Platform Party, and Faculty should return rented regalia immediately following the ceremony.

Values

• At the top of the map is a black left arrow labeled Interstate 55. To the left of the map is a black vertical line labeled High Street. The map label Processional is at the bottom left.
• The venue is represented by a rectangular area for the Trade Mart below the Interstate 55 label and a circular area near the bottom right for the Mississippi Coliseum. The entrances to the coliseum are labeled Mississippi Street Entrance on the left (north) and Midway Entrance on the right (south). Thin lines to the left of the Mississippi Street Entrance represent the parking lot and driveway that lead to High Street.
• With some exceptions, the following colors are used to represent map areas:
  • Light Blue – the Blue Room
  • Light Blue with Royal Blue outlines – UMMC Photography areas, The Medic pickup, and rented regalia return areas
  • Red – the Red Room and UMMC faculty/staff-only “beyond this point” zones
  • White with Red outline – First Aid stations and the Ambulance bay
• With some exceptions, the following colors are used to represent robing, lineup, walking paths, and seating areas
  • Gray – Platform Party
  • Gold – Hooders
  • Peach – School of Health Related Professions
  • Orange – School of Nursing
  • Green – School of Medicine
  • Purple – School of Dentistry

•  The following designations are indicated on the map at the Trade Mart:
  • A red vertical line with the label Graduates Enter the Trade Mart Here points to the main entrances to the Trade Mart. Smaller entrances run along the perimeter.
  • The hallways of the Trade Mart the following areas labeled from left to right:
    • The women’s and men’s restrooms are on the left and right of the hallway entrances.
    • A red-outlined First Aid station is located in the hallway outside Exhibit Hall A.
    • A red bar between Exhibit Halls A and B in the hallway indicates that “Graduates Only” is beyond that point.
  • The Exhibit Halls of the Trade Mart have the following areas labeled from left to right:
    • A women’s and men’s restrooms are on the north side of Exhibit Hall A.
    • Exhibit Hall A is open to all graduates and guests and includes UMMC Photography areas.
    • The red line indicates a room separator that will be closed to separate Exhibit Hall A from Exhibit Halls B and C.
    • Exhibit Halls B and C include gold-colored directional marks for graduates and faculty to gather after the recessional.
    • A women’s and men’s restrooms are on the south side of Exhibit Hall C.
• These colored walking paths appear on the map from the MS Coliseum to the Trade Mart:
  • Gold paths on left and right aisles, go from Hooder (seating areas) to Exhibit Halls B & C.
  • An Orange path goes from Nursing (seating area) to Hooder (left side seating area).
  • A Peach path goes from Health Related Professions (seating area) to Nursing (seating area).
  • A Robin’s Egg Blue path goes from Faculty (seating area) to Health Related Professions (seating area).
  • A Purple path goes from Dentistry (seating area) to Hooder (right side seating area).
  • A Green path goes from Medicine (seating area) to Dentistry (seating area).
  • A Pink path goes from Pop. Health (seating area) to Medicine (seating area).
  • A Teal path goes from SGSHS and MD/PhD (seating area) to Pop. Health (seating area).
  • A Gray path goes from the Platform (seating area) to the Gray Room.
• The following designations are indicated on the map at the Mississippi Coliseum:
  • Center right in Light Blue: The Blue Room
  • Center right in Lime Green: Midway Entrance/Guest Entrance
  • Center-left in Red: the Red Room and First Aid station
  • Center-left in Lime Green: Mississippi Street Entrance/Guest Entrance
