Genetics

What is a children's geneticist?

Children's geneticists are pediatric specialists who are experts in the role hereditary and genetic factors play in causing inherited medical concerns. Genetic counselors and geneticists work together to offer prenatal counseling and genetic testing for pregnant women. Our children's genetics team offers comprehensive evaluation for known or suspected inherited medical concerns.

If advanced care is needed, genetic counselors work in collaboration with a team of expert subspecialists through UMMC’s Center for Maternal and Fetal Care. This multidisciplinary team works together to care for both the mother and child’s unique needs - all under one roof.
